Abstract
Asymmetric vibrations can generate a traction illusion, simulating a pulling sensation that is particularly useful for VR navigation. Traditional methods rely on thumb and index finger grasping, limiting their integration with VR controllers and hand-tracking systems. We propose a haptic device that eliminates the need for thumb and index finger involvement by using a fingerband to engage the ring finger, pinky, and palm. This device, featuring two low-cost vibration actuators, provides a vertical pseudo-traction force, operates wirelessly, and seamlessly integrates with VR controllers and hand-tracking systems. We demonstrate its significant potential in an AR system for spatial haptics, including both traction and weight illusions.
